When Did This Stop Being A Thing?

Trawling through the Internet the other day I came across a picture I once used on a Faith Brothers album cover (the one on the top left). Back then I only came across it by chance in a photo library, today, loads of other 'similar' photos popped up next to it. And some great pics they were. Wonder what Child Welfare's and Health & Safety's take would be on such an activity today?
